Hello beautiful queens! We are back with our New Influencer of the Week: Courtney Williams! We are excited to feature Courtney and have been following her on instagram for a while! We love the bold and carefree looks Courtney creates and how much fun she has with her hair! Here’s what she had to say in her interview:
What’s your full name?
Courtney Williams
Where are you from?
Florida
What’s your hair type?
Type 4, (4b/4c blend). Very porous.
Why did you go natural and how long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural off and and for 7 years, 4 years consistently. My hair didn’t do well at all with relaxers. I tried hard not to accept it so I kept short, relaxed cuts to make it easier to maintain, but honestly it was still breaking off or constantly shedding. When I became pregnant with my daughter, I decided to stay natural, being I shaved my head whilst pregnant and went without a relaxer for so long. I also wanted to set an example for her to embrace her natural so it made sense to continue on my journey.
What do you love MOST about being natural?
I love love the versatility! I love the boldness and how it stands out. I love the attention it receives! I love how it feels and smells. The shrinkage tricks it plays (lol). EVERYTHING!
What’s the most challenging experience you’ve had since being natural and how did you overcome it?
My biggest thing to overcome was not being familiar with my texture, not knowing the right products to use and not having many options to choose from at the time. The awkward stage when i didn’t know how to style because length wasn’t there. At one point I felt not as beautiful because my thoughts of beauty had been associated with pretty ringlets, loser curl patterns or bone straight hair. Now that I have become familiar by gaining knowledge and being patient with my hair these things aren’t issues. I feel it’s an honor to know and love my hair.
What or who inspired you to become a natural hair influencer/blogger?
This actually started for fun. I toyed around with the idea of it being something serious for so long then I asked myself “what are you waiting for, just do it”
I’m using my talents and gifts to help others become comfortable and educated on their hair. Reminding them that it’s possible to be natural and confident at the same time. It feels good to know that I helped someone find that in themselves.
Who’s your Favorite Natural Hair Influencer/curl crush?
Ugh I love all my natural ladies .. I think my faves would be @naturallyvonlue and jerriicaa_ and looksbylexx__ they’re all so sweet and have super dope content.
Do you like DIY regimens? If so, what’s your favorite?
I’ve tried a few DIY’s and yes I love them I think my favorites would be DIY deep conditioners, the ingredients change often. I feel like a chemist mixing fruits and oils and berries in my kitchen lol.
LCO or LOC or neither?
I prefer the LCO Method
Pre-poo or shampoo?
Shampoo
What’s your Go-To products (that you can’t live without)?
I don’t have a specific product because I feel if i can’t find what i need on the shelf I’ll make it lol.
What’s your favorite Hair style?
AFROS!! Lol. My go to and second faves would be puffs.
What advice would you give someone who’s considering going natural?
My advise would be BE PATIENT. FOCUS ON HEALTH NOT LENGTH. Become familiar with your hair. Follow those who have similar hair types. Appreciate each stage. Remember your hair doesn’t define you it enhances what you already have inside and out.
What advice would you give someone who’s feeling stuck with their hair growth?
I always tell those feeling stuck to try something different than they’re used to. New routine. New products. Spend time to really get familiar with your hair to see what does and doesn’t work for you.
What’s your current hair care regimen?
Currently I wash twice a week and deep condition every Sunday. I trim when my ends are looking crazy and that could be anywhere between every 2-6 months
Product Junkie or Minimalist?
I love coming into amazing products but I’m definitely a minimalist
